Commissions

You want a one-of-a-kind, custom piece of art but you’re not sure where to start? I compiled a list of the most common questions I get asked by potential clients below along with my responses. Hopefully, this Q&A will help!

Q: How much is this gonna cost me?

A: This is easily the most common question and for good reason. The truth is, costs can and do vary based on the size and complexity of the drawing. Like most artists, I base my pricing on the amount of time it takes me to complete a piece of art. Here are some basic guidelines –

  • Commissioned pieces start at $750 – $1000 for an 11”x14” unframed black and white pencil drawing on Bristol paper.
  • Larger sizes are available; please contact me for an estimate.
  • Colored pencil drawings and pieces with more than one person would be priced higher.
  • I’m happy to go over all options and prices with you as you consider investing in a commissioned piece of art.

Q: Can you draw my spouse / child / parent / pet?

A: Absolutely! I’ve drawn many family members, young and old alike. There’s something very special about having a custom drawing of a loved one, and I’m always honored when someone puts their trust in me.

As for drawing Fido or Miss Kitty, there are other artists out there who specialize in beautiful pet portraits. So as much as I love animals, I’ll stick with drawing humans for the time being.

Q: Do you need me to provide you with a photo?

A: Yes please. I draw all my portraits from photos or sometimes a combination of images. Please keep in mind that the higher resolution of the image(s) you provide, the better the results will be.

Q: The only photo I have of Grandpa is a 1976 Polaroid … will that work?

A: I’m not saying it’s impossible, but we’d both want to set our expectations realistically. Many older photos are blurry, making it difficult to see fine details. And unfortunately, I can’t draw what I can’t see. So if you’re looking for a highly-detailed, photorealistic drawing, I’m really going to need higher resolution images in order to deliver that type of product.

Q: I’m a huge fan of Patrick Mahomes / Lady Gaga / Jimi Hendrix / Marilyn Monroe. Can you draw him or her?

A: Gladly! I’ve drawn many celebrities over the years, including Amy Winehouse, Caitlin Clark, Tim McGraw, Alicia Keys and Jerry Garcia. I’d be happy to bring your idol to life!

Q: How do I pay you? And do you require any $ up front?

A: I accept online payment via Venmo, PayPal and Zelle. I also accept MasterCard and Visa. Of course, cash works too!

I do require a 50% deposit on all commissions to secure your place in line. Once I start the drawing, I will provide you with numerous progress updates throughout the process, so that you can see the progress of your artwork.

When the drawing is complete, I will send you an invoice for the remaining balance. Shipping takes place once the balance is paid in full.

Q: Speaking of which, how do you handle shipping?

A: The smaller pieces are generally mailed in flat, rigid envelopes, whereas the larger pieces are typically rolled up and shipped in cardboard tubes.

I usually use USPS for shipping domestically.

Q: I live in Tokyo / London / Rio / Timbuktu. Do you ship internationally?

A: I’ve shipped pieces to 18 countries outside the US. I’ll work with you on the best carrier to get your piece to you in a reliable and timely manner.
